Animal – A Gory Tale With A Senseless Plot

Sandeep Vanga was probably clueless about what to make of a son-father’s ludicrous tale. Ranvijay(Ranbir Kapoor) yearns for his father’s love, attention, and validation since childhood which makes his emotional state volatile and turbulent. Balbir Singh(Anil Kapoor) is a steel magnet who holds different views and ideologies than his son. He expects his son to be matured and sensible and is upset with his waywardness and obsessive behavior.

Gitanjali(Rashmika Mandanna) is married to Ranjvijay and is aware of his animalistic behavior and the series of murders he commits to avenge against those plotting against his father. The movie has exaggerated and unbelievable moments filled with gore and fails to convince the audience of the depth of love and veneration Ranvijay has for his father Balbir Singh.

Bobby Deol was loved for his role as Abrar, probably because he does not utter a word. The movie fails to convince why lack of Ranvijay’s father’s love and attention has turned him into an animal. Rashmika Mandanna and Ranbir Kapoor have given outstanding performances. A few moments in the movie are probably done to create a shock value.

Apart from a few bewildering moments, the movie has nothing significant to offer in terms of a good plot. The actors performances have been the saving grace. The movie has too many gory action sequences which have prolonged the movie, making it look like a lame action movie with mindless violence.

Animal has created a lot of hype only to disappoint. The character of Ranvijay is toxic, erratic, filled with intense emotions for not just his father but for his loved ones. His character is that of a split personality who loves his wife but does not flinch having an affair if it serves his purpose.

The character of Gitanjali is disorienting who does not mind animal Ranvijay commit numerous murders. It looks like the movie is set in a chaotic dystopian era where law and order is absent. Despite a lot of violence there is not a single scene which shows the involvement of police or lawmakers. It looks like everything has occurred in a lawless land where police is not informed of such actions. That was plain ridiculous.

What is more ridiculous is the speech of Ranvijay where he openly declares to kill his fathers wrongdoers. One wonders why isn’t he arrested for making open threats in front of the media. A cockamamie story with innuendos which have nothing entertaining to offer to the audience.

The movie glorifies Ranvijay’s savage behavior which is worrisome. Filmmakers must have a sense of social responsibility creating characters that glorify bad attitude and ideologies.
